Mask Update- April 24, 2022

April 24, 2022 update:

Thank you for your continued commitment to keep our community safe and healthy.  After April vacation, we will return to our March masking status:

Effective immediately, masks will be optional in ALL classes with kids 5 and up; i.e., children who are eligible for the vaccine and, thus, hopefully, vaccinated.  For Twirling Tykes, Turning Tots, Fairytale Ballet and Mini Movers, masks are still required.   Again, I am following the experts, as well as the Newton Public Schools, guidance here and they are all still requiring masks for these unvaccinated groups.

April update:

Due to the rising cases and outbreaks within the high schools, we are going to temporarily go back to mandatory masking for the 2 weeks leading up to April break.  We hope to go back to mask optional following break, depending on the cases within the community.  Stay tuned!

March update:

After careful consideration, I have decided to adjust our mask mandate to the following:

Effective immediately, masks will be optional in ALL classes with kids 5 and up; i.e., children who are eligible for the vaccine and, thus, hopefully, vaccinated.  For Twirling Tykes, Turning Tots, Fairytale Ballet and Mini Movers, masks are still required.   Again, I am following the experts, as well as the Newton Public Schools, guidance here and they are all still requiring masks for these unvaccinated groups.

Couple important points:

  1. Just because we are going mask optional, this doesn’t mean that those students who are still preferring to wear masks should feel ANY kind of pressure to remove their masks.  I encourage all dancers to remain wearing masks for as long as they feel comfortable.  There will be no stigma whatsoever for people who remove their masks and/or for people who wish to remain masked.
  2. As has been the case for all of the pandemic, if your child is sick with any kind of respiratory illness, they MUST stay home.  If anyone in your immediate household has tested positive, please keep your child home during the contagious period.
  3. Our waiting room will remain closed.  With this new variant on the horizon, I don’t want to introduce too many new variables into our environment.  Most importantly is for those kids who wish to dance unmasked to be given the opportunity to do so.  Parents, of our youngest dancers, who are allowed into the waiting room must still wear their masks- nothing has changed for these unvaccinated kids.
  4. Please know that the teachers and I are here to support your children.  Some of my staff will unmask immediately, others may not do so for the rest of this school year and some (including myself) will probably feel comfortable doing so in the next week or so.  And, we expect our students to be in a very similar situation.  All of this is okay!
  5. Lastly, while some of us may be excited for this transition, some of us may still be nervous and anxious.  In keeping with our All That Jazz Core Values, I ask that everyone continue to stand together, offer each other grace and show kindness for all.  As always, our studio will remain a judgment-free environment.

For the past 2 years, we have been able to preserve our mantra of Smile and Have Fun- first through Zoom and then through masks.  I am excited to see all of you, whether full face or masked, as we continue to Smile and Have Fun!

As always, please reach out if you have any concerns and follow our social media pages for pictures of our happy dancers- both masked AND unmasked!

I will continue to monitor the situation and update policies as needed.

Just a reminder, the following protocols have been in place all year and will continue to be so going forward:

•We will continue with our enhanced cleaning procedures, hospital grade air purifiers, opening windows for ventilation and requiring students to sanitize hands prior to entering the studios.

•In the interest of continued safety for our unvaccinated younger dancers, we are still not opening up our waiting room for parents to stay and watch class.

•The only exception to this rule is for our Twirling Tykes and Turning Tots classes (2-4 year olds), where ONE parent may remain masked in the waiting room during class, if needed.

•For all other classes in our Grow with Us program (ages 4-7), parents should walk their child into the studio waiting room, get them prepared for class and then leave.  Please return 5 minutes before the end of class to meet your child and get them dressed to leave as quickly as possible.

•Again, for all other classes ages 8-11, parents need to drop off and pick up their children from inside our building, on the landings and stairs, but not inside our waiting room or studios.  For dancers older than 11, parents can make their own drop off and pick up arrangements.

Bottom line, we will do everything we can to keep our dancers, families and staff members safe and healthy.
